Directors & Management
Wesley R. Edens is the Chairman of the Company. Mr. Edens is a principal and Co-Chairman of the board of directors of Fortress Investment Group LLC, an affiliate of the manager. Mr. Edens has been a principal and the Chairman of the Management Committee of Fortress since co-founding Fortress in May 1998. Mr. Edens is responsible for the private equity and publicly traded alternative investment businesses of Fortress Investment Group LLC. He is also Chairman of the board of directors of each of Aircastle Limited, Brookdale Senior Living Inc., GateHouse Media, Inc. Mapeley Limited, Newcastle Investment Corp., RailAmerica, Inc. and Seacastle Inc. and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Newcastle Investment Holdings LLC (the predecessor of Newcastle) and a director of GAGFAH S.A. and Penn National Gaming Inc. Mr. Edens was the Chief Executive Officer of Global Signal Inc. from February 2004 to April 2006 and Chairman of the board of directors from October 2002 to January 2007. Mr. Edens serves in various capacities in the following five registered investment companies: Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive Officer of Fortress Registered Investment Trust and Fortress Investment Trust II; Chairman of the Board of Managers and Chief Executive Officer of Fortress Brookdale Investment Fund LLC and Fortress Pinnacle Investment Fund LLC, Chief Executive Officer, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of RIC Coinvestment Fund LP. Prior to forming Fortress Investment Group LLC, Mr. Edens was a partner and a managing director of BlackRock Financial Management Inc., where he headed BlackRock Asset Investors, a private equity fund. In addition, Mr. Edens was formerly a partner and a managing director of Lehman Brothers. ![]() Paolo G. Bassi is a member of Eurocastle’s Board of Directors. He was a consultant and later a partner in the Boston based MAC Group between 1978 and 1992, during which time he handled the strategic and financial aspects of mergers, acquisitions and divestments in France, Italy and the United States. He was closely involved in acquisition processes involving Fiat, Olivetti and Carrefour. In addition, Mr. Bassi has held a number of directorships, including of Banca Popolare di Milano between 1997 and 2001 (including five years as chief executive officer), during which time he was also chief executive officer of their principal real estate fund. He was chief executive officer of Centrobanca SpA and Italfondiario SpA up to 2002, both of which specialised in the financing of real estate projects within Europe. Mr. Bassi is currently a member of the board of directors of Liguria Assicurazioni SpA and has advised Hines, a global real estate development group, and Zunino Group, an Italian real estate investment company. Since 2003, Mr. Bassi has been serving as managing director of Sensi Group, an Italian real estate developer and investor. He was on the Board of Directors of Trace Tracker Innovation, Oslo Norway and holds the position of Managing Director of P.A. Investments Luxemburg. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Acea, a leading Italian utility company. He has studied sociology, physics and business administration in France and the United States and has been a professor of Economics and Organisation in the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences at the University of Milan since 1985. ![]() Keith Dorrian is a director and has over 30 years’ experience in the offshore finance industry. In 1973, he joined Manufacturers Hanover Bank (Guernsey) Limited where, amongst other things, he was involved in a local residential mortgage programme. He moved to First National Bank of Chicago (Channel Islands) Limited in 1984, where, amongst other things he was involved in commercial real estate lending in the Netherlands. In 1989 he joined ANZ Bank (Guernsey) Limited where as a director of the bank and fund management company (ANZ Management Company (Guernsey) Limited), he was closely involved in the banking and fund management services of the ANZ group, including residential lending in Guernsey. He took up the position of manager corporate clients in Bank of Bermuda (Guernsey) Limited in 1999 and was appointed head of Global Fund Services and managing director of Management International (Guernsey) Limited, the bank’s fund administration company, in 2001 and retired on 31 December 2003. During this time, Mr Dorrian was involved in the credit approval process for local real-estate backed lending. He is a Director of a number of Fund Companies and holds the Institute of Directors Diploma in Corporate Governance. ![]() Randal A. Nardone is a member of Eurocastle’s board of directors. Mr. Nardone is a principal and a member of the board of directors of Fortress Investment Group LLC. Mr. Nardone has been a principal and a member of the Management Committee of Fortress since co-founding Fortress in 1998. Mr. Nardone is a director of GAGFAH S.A. and Secretary of Newcastle Investment Corp. Mr. Nardone is also a Vice President and the Secretary of Newcastle Investment Holdings LLC (the predecessor of Newcastle). Mr. Nardone was previously a managing director of UBS from May 1997 to May 1998. Prior to joining UBS in 1997, Mr. Nardone was a principal of BlackRock Financial Management, Inc. Prior to joining BlackRock, Mr. Nardone was a partner and a member of the executive committee at the law firm of Thacher Proffitt & Wood. ![]() Dr. Udo Scheffel is a member of Eurocastle’s board of directors. Dr. Scheffel has over 15 years of experience in the German property sector. He is the chief executive officer of CBW AG, a leading Bavarian residential company. Previously Dr. Scheffel was chief executive officer of the Bayerische Immobilien Gruppe, a major German privately held commercial property company. Prior to Bayerische Immobilien, Dr. Scheffel was at RAG Immobilien as the spokesman of the board, head of investments and a member of the supervisory and advisory board of associated companies. ![]() Dr. Simon J. Thornton is a member of Eurocastle's board of directors. Dr. Thornton is a managing director of the Praxis Group, one of the largest independently owned financial services groups in the Channel Islands. At Praxis, he advises corporate and private clients on fiduciary, accounting and auditing, and taxation matters. Dr. Thornton joined the Praxis Group in 1992 and is a qualified chartered accountant. He is on the management board of PKF (Guernsey) Ltd, where he also serves as the second audit director. Additionally, he is the director of a number of investment companies including several Guernsey trading companies among which is the Guernsey Housing Association LBG. Previous to joining Praxis Group, he obtained a PhD at Nottingham University. ![]() Bruce Snider joined Fortress in April 2005. He is a managing director of our manager, an affiliate of Fortress Investment Group LLC. Mr. Snider was previously at UBS Principal Finance where he headed the Principal Finance business in Europe and chaired the Brooklands Committee. Prior to joining UBS, Mr. Snider managed the Asset Backed Securitisation and Principal Finance businesses of Greenwich NatWest in Europe. Mr. Snider began his Wall Street career in 1985 at Kidder Peabody in the Mortgage Department on the whole loan trading desk. Mr. Snider graduated from Princeton University in 1983. ![]() Stephen Charlton joined Fortress in August 2004. He is a managing director of our manager, an affiliate of Fortress Investment Group LLC, and is Eurocastle's chief financial officer. Mr. Charlton is responsible for, among other things, Eurocastle’s financial control, compliance and reporting functions. Mr. Charlton was previously with Gordian Knot Limited where he spent 10 years as chief financial officer. While he was at Gordian he was part of the management team responsible for creating, and then managing, Sigma Finance Corporation, a limited purpose finance company with total investment grade assets of US$33 billion. From 1989 to 1994 Mr. Charlton was finance director of Sterling Trust Plc, a USM quoted financial services group. Prior to joining Sterling Trust, Mr. Charlton held financial management control positions with DKB International (the securities arm of Dai-ichi Kangyo Bank), Irving Trust Co and James Capel & Co (HSBC). Mr. Charlton started his career in London with Price Waterhouse (1980 – 1985) where he qualified as a chartered accountant. ![]() |
